Lab 4. Standing Wave

Introduction
This Experiment is designed to create various standing waves which driving by an external force.

Procedure

1. Measure the mass and length of the string.

2.
Experiment set up-1
Experiment Set up-2
3. Adjust the frequency of the function generator -> creating standing wave -> increase the wave's number of node by adjusting the frequency.
1st harmonic
2nd harmonic
3rd harmonic
4th harmonic

10th harmonic
4. Change tension (change hanging mass) -> measure the first 6 harmonics.

Data/Discussion

The ratio of wave speed for case 1 compared to 2 = 80.233/40.103 = 2.00

Conclusion

This experiment successfully creating accurate harmonic standing waves. Frequency and inverse wavelength showed linear relationship which increasing of frequency also increase the 1/wavelength.
